Vidéo taken during a Sub Thalamic Nucleus (STN) micro electrode recording in 1999.
Neuronal reactivity to passive shoulder movements demonstrates the correct location of electrode inside the somatosensory area of STN.
This, together with clinical response to macrostimulation defines the functional target location.
Chronic DBS at the same place alleviates all symptoms of the disease by functionally interrupting abnormal activity of basal ganglia output.
